Grandparents Museum
P1 have worked really hard this week to set up a museum to display the images and objects brought in and the work we have done about grandparents.  Everyone helped to make posters and little labels to explain the artefacts to our visitors.  We have also had a pretend 'old school' set up for us to play in and to show our visitors.
Thank you to everyone who came to the museum today.  Telling everyone about what we have learned about the past was a good way to round off the topic.

A Week of Bonny Weather!
We have had great fun this week playing outside at playtime and lunchtime with the Scrapstore Playpod.  P2 were doing an assembly this week about sharing so we talked about this in class and tried really hard to share the scrap.  Here are a few photos of us having fun and doing good sharing with P2 :)

Pier Arts Centre Visit
This afternoon we went on a visit to the Pier Arts Centre to do our bit in creating Stromness Primary School's 'Inspired By' exhibition.  We looked at some pieces of art and then worked in small groups to create colour collages.  When we had finished the collages, we went on a treasure hunt around the Pier Arts Centre and looked for some other pieces of art.
Thanks to everyone who helped on the trip and we look forward to showing off what we have done during the exhibition later in the month.

Maths
'I can sort in a variety of ways according to my own and others' criteria.'

In maths we have been sorting lots of different things.  We have sorted shapes on a Carroll diagram, animals into hoops and we even sorted us by walking along a road and splitting off according to the signs.  We discovered that some criteria were better for sorting than others.  For example if we used 'has a dog' and 'has a cat' criteria for sorting ourselves, where would all the people who have hamsters go!

World Book Day
Last Thursday we all dressed up for World Book Day.  During the week we had enjoyed looking at and buying books from the book fair and altogether the school spent over £1000 on books!  This amazing amount will mean that we receive money to spend on new books for our library.  Thanks to everyone for supporting this and thanks to P5 and P7 for organising the week.

Sorting Shapes
In maths we have been reminding ourselves of the names of some 3D shapes and how to describe them.  We know about a cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone and sphere.  We made a Carroll diagram by sorting the shapes into different groups (cube or cuboid or not cube or cuboid).  Then we played a game where you had to close your eyes while someone swapped a shape around.  When you opened your eyes you had to find the odd shape out.

A Special Visitor
Sofia's granny came to school to help Sofia with her Show and Tell today.  She took in lots of things that belonged to her when she was a little girl.  She didn't watch TV or play computer games like boys and girls do now!  Here are some of the things that she played with.

She showed us a little egg that had a chick inside.  You could only see the chick when the egg spun round.

When she went to Stromness Primary, Sofia's granny sometimes wore a school tie.  Here is Sofia trying it on!
