Welcome Back!

That's everyone back and into the swing of things again.  We have been really busy in P1 these first two weeks and have started to learn lots of new things.

Maths

We are starting to learn about adding and taking away this term.  We have been doing lots of practical adding and taking away; with frogs, dinosaurs, people etc.  We have been learning about what sums look like and have started to explore number stories.

We are also learning about 3D objects and some of the words you use to describe them.

Here we are sorting cubes and cuboids.

Literacy

We are all working well in reading and getting new books every week.  We are enjoying hearing all about Kipper, Biff and Chip's adventures.  We are continuing to move on with Jolly Phonics and are practising our skills in literacy time.  

This week we all wrote about our favourite toys!

Project

Miss Pirie got an advert sent to her in the post.  It was asking people to help set up a toy shop in Stromness.  We decided that we could have a toy shop here in the school.  It is called the Fairy Ninja Toy Shop!  We decided to make some toys for it so we have been looking at what toys are made of, what they do and how they work.  We have put some toys into the shop and have started playing at being shop-keepers.
